This is a weekly meme hosted by Freda's Voice. I thought this seemed like fun for this week so I hope you enjoy.

 The Rules Are:

Novella Review: Glitter and Doom by Bethany Griffin

Glitter and Doom
(Masque of the Red Death #1.5)
by Bethany Griffin
Format: Ebook (50 Pages)
Published: March 26th 2013 by Greenwillow Books
Source: Bought Myself
GoodReads Page

A 50-page, digital-only novella set in the world of Bethany Griffin's dark and haunting retelling of the classic Edgar Allan Poe story Masque of the Red Death. When a rich teenage girl who spends her nights in the most desirable club and a smart, young inventor meet, they might have more in common than they know.

April, niece to the dying city's cruel dictator, is Araby Worth's glittery and frivolous best friend. But she's more than she appears. And when she disappeared in Masque of the Red Death, where did she go? This short novella answers that question, taking us deep underneath the crumbling city, where April crosses paths with Kent, the serious young inventor who is key to rebellion. Glitter & Doom is a story of chilling action, of spies, and of surprising love. Can love be anything but doomed is a city that's burning down around its survivors?

A dark, unnerving story about two of the most fascinating characters from Masque of the Red Death.

Review:

This novella is pretty important to the storyline of Masque of the Red Death. It starts out in April's perspective through out her life. It shows us how she grew up in the Prince's castle and some behind the scenes at how the Prince really is compared to how he acts. I thought it was interesting that it shows from her childhood all the way to the end of Masque of the Red Death.

The second part of this novella is told from Kent's point of view. Kent is a inventor who helps Elliot during Masque of the Red Death. I was actually surprised by this novella because it does show how important both of these characters are to the main storyline. All the things they do behind the scenes of the main story is really crazy.

I would have never guessed that April liked Kent without reading this novella. I would have to say this is a must read for this series. It helps you understand certain choices that these characters made in the main story. I thought it was a good quick read and it makes me want to read the second book more now.

I gave this 4 out of 5 bats.

Nights in the Debauchery Club, beautiful dresses, glittery makeup . . . and tantalizing ways to forget it all.
But in the depths of the club,in the depths of her own despair. Araby will find more than oblivion. She will find Will, the terribly handsome proprietor of the club, and Elliott, the wickedly smart aristocrat. Neither is what he seems. Both have secrets. Everyone does.
And Araby may find not just something to live for, but something to fight for, no matter what it costs her.

Review:

Well now this book is different than the ones I have been reading lately in the best way possible. I have to say this diffidently a darker read. I really loved this book I honestly couldn't put it down. I got really pulled into this book from the very beginning.

The setting for this book takes place in a city, separated by the rich from the poor. For good reason, there is a airborne plague about. This city is ruled by a prince who lives outside of it, he doesn't care for the city or the people who live inside of it.

The main character is a girl named Araby, shes having a hard time with life ever since she lost her twin brother Finn. She goes out to the clubs and does drugs to sooth away horrific memories. Besides that she is brave and caring, I would say maybe she cares a little to easily. She feels bad for people who can't afford masks or food. She lives in the rich side of town because her father discovered the masks that keep you from catching the cognition.

Of course theirs the charming "bouncer" guy with tattoos, his name is Will. Will isn't rich and has to work to barely keep food on the table for his little sister and brother. He is attracted to girls like Araby with their crazy hair colors and depressed moods. Araby of course finds Will to be very handsome. Shes promised her brother Finn that she wouldn't experience anything that he would never get to do. So she has never kissed a boy, anyways. Her and will are awkward at first but he ends up really caring for her and wanting to protect her. I would say that I liked his character from the beginning of the book.

But then come mysterious Elliot, he is a really tough character. He doesn't seem to care much for life that is until you find out that he is the Prince's nephew. He and Araby also have a romantic thing going on. They are way different than Araby and Will though. Elliot isn't afraid to put Araby in harms way and often seems like he doesn't care a lot. I found that I didn't really like him at first but then I found myself liking him more and more. I would still have to say I'm on Team Will though.

Another important charter in this book is Araby's bestfriend April. Also she is Elliot's sister so she has her issues with Araby and Elliot. She is the one who cares about fashion and what her and Araby look like even during a plague outbreak. She brings Araby to all the clubs so that way she can meet up with guys. She seems to care a lot about Araby with the decisions she makes. I found April to be rather enjoyable I thought she was fun character and she is rather important to the storyline.

I found this book to be a must read. I also loved the world and how gothic everything was. I would say that if you haven't read this book yet then you need to pick it up sometime.I also can't wait to start reading on the second book because I need to see what will happen next.

I gave this book 5 out of 5 bats.

Novella Review: Nordic Fairies by Saga Berg

 Nordic Fairies
(Nordic Fairies #1)
by Saga Berg
Edition: Ebook (44 Pages)
Published: September 4th 2013
Source: Amazon
GoodReads Page

Nordic Liosálfar Svala and Viggo have been in love for a thousand years. After two years apart Svala turns on her TV to find Viggo in the public light, posing as a movie star. She tries to seek him out and the events that follow forces some deep buried secrets to surface...

Svala and Viggo have spent a hundred lives together over the last thousand years. As Liosálfar, Nordic light fairies, their job is to do good and to uphold a balance in the mortal world. A balance, often compromised by the Döckálfar, Nordic dark fairies.

But even good fairies need incentive.

Svala and Viggo are kept apart each life until they fulfill their assignments. Only when, and if, they succeed are they allowed to be together for whatever period of time the powers that be decides. Sometimes they are together for decades, other times years and during the last union once only three weeks.

In this life, Svala turns on her TV and learns that Viggo has become a popular movie star. This is not only highly unexpected, it indicates something is wrong and that Viggo is attempting to contact Svala before their assignments are carried out, an action which is strictly forbidden.

Svala seeks him out, but not without breaking a few rules of her own, and learning that things are not always as they seem.

Review:
(Although I got to read this for free my review is still 100% honest)

This story is so sad. Well I mean it is but it isn't. Its only the first part of the full story but I'd have to say I'm intrigued so far. Its a story about Svala and Viggo two nordic fairies who are pulled apart from each other. They have to complete tasks to be back with each other until that life end. Then they have to start all over again. Being away from the person you love is hard enough but having a happy life with them and then being pulled away the next to only start all over again must be terrible.

The main character is Svala who is blonde with the nordic fairies blue eyes. She seems to only want to be with Viggo and makes all of her choices around that statement. I feel really bad for her in this section of their story because of how Viggo treats her.

In this section of their life Viggo is a big movie star and has all the girls loving him. He is dating his co-star who isn't Svala. He seems like hes just trying to get through this life without her.

Anyways this book was better than I thought it would be. Of course their is a lot of unanswered questions but that is why this is novella series. I would like to read the next one to figure out what happens next. I would say that this is diffidently worth a try.

I gave this 4 out of 5 bats.

Review:
(Although I received this for Review my review is still 100% honest)

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It really had some twist and turns within it. I almost didn't want to stop reading it because I wanted to see what would happen next.

This story takes place mostly in Chicago and it seems like I would get lost there a lot. Of course Chicago is a big city and you get explore quite a bit of it with this book.

Lucy our main character I enjoyed a lot. She had to be tough going up with mom basically taking care of herself which anyone can admire. I really liked the fact by how shocked she was by  how high certain prices were or by how extravagant  peoples houses were, she is just like anyone else. Well except the fact that she had the  half witch and  half demon thing going on. I found it unique that she wasn't born with her witch powers but they had to be granted to her by a certain age. I don't think that I have read a book in while were you weren't born with your witch powers. I really loved reading about her demonic powers and how she started to make them stronger.

Then of course their is Marcus her upstairs neighbor who is rather hot. Although his real name is Gaberial, as soon as I found this out I thought he was an angel. Well turns out  I was wrong I was really surprised when you figure out what he really is. But besides that he is really sweet to Lucy and cares deeply about her.

The two of them together were kind of confusing though. I want them to be together but they also have their issues. I guess no relationship is perfect, but I felt like Marcus jumps to a lot of conclusions way to fast about what Lucy is doing a lot of the time. So this of course leads to quite a few fights within the book. Maybe it was because of everything that Marcus was hiding from Lucy that these fights seemed to happen so often.

Then in walks Dylan an athlete who all the girls fawn over. Of course hes cocky but he gets put in his place by Lucy a few times. At first I didn't really care for him but he turns out to be rather sweet. By the end of the book I'm liking him but not the same as Marcus. I am team Marcus for sure.

Oddly enough one of my favorite characters in this book was Jude. Jude is a demon who is evil! I think he really just want to love Lucy as his daughter. From the very beginning I believed he didn't want to hurt her but care for her. Although some of things he does in this book are rather creepy. I still enjoyed his character through out the book.

There are a lot of other characters in this book who add different vibes to it throughout. Each of them are rather semi important to what is going on in Lucy's world. There is some drama in this read but I rather enjoyed it because it wasn't to much. I also found myself having a few out loud laughs from this book.

All in all I think that this book was really good. I was impressed by its story although I found certain parts predictable. While other parts shocked or surprised me. I would say that this book is worth a read you won't be disappointed by it. If there were plans for a second book I would diffidently be waiting for that!

I gave this book 4 out of 5 bats.

As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner

Review:

I cannot believe this book! I can easily say that this book is better than the first one. But that is just crazy talk because I loved the first one right? Well its not just crazy talk I loved this one more.

This book is told in different perspectives of Scarlet, Cinder, Kai and even Queen Levana herself. I found this book being a fun read switching between two stories at once. What was going on with Cinder and then switching over to Scarlet. It was really well done and I thought it made the story more complex.

This book takes place more outside of the eastern commonwealth that you get introduced to in the first book. You get to learn more about Europe and particularly Paris which is  were a majority of Scarlet's story takes place. I enjoyed the fact the this world expands further than the first book which is what a good second book is suppose to do.

I found myself really enjoying Scarlet's character I thought she was very carefree in the way she makes decisions. She just wants to do anything to help her grandmother. Speaking of her grandmother, I really loved how complex the story goes with hiding Cinder.

Scarlet and Wolf well their relationship happens really fast less than a week. I still loved it though, usually I'm not very impressed with the lovesick puppies story but this one was way different. I loved how mushy they were at the end ♥. They have a pretty crazy story together full of secrets and betrayal. Which really shocked me because I do really love Wolf's character (Z). Yea his main story is told in the Queen's Army by Marissa Meyer. I can not tell you how much I loved the fact that novella puts such a good background story with this one character in a book. Wow.

Another new character who needs some mention since you meet him at the very beginning is Throne. He is a very fun character, he thinks hes a ladies man and isn't afraid to flirt with any of them. I found his character to be very amusing and I think he helped me keep reading as well.

The story for this book was more than I expected. Yes its a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, but besides that story the one about the Wolf Pack. Yes I really enjoyed that section of the book a lot because of how intense and gruesome it was. It was a very big surprise and I would have to say that part alone is worth the read.

All I have to say for this book is that if you haven't read this after Cinder then you need to jump on it. Also why can't have the next book now! I wouldn't say it ends with a cliffhanger but it makes you want to read the next one.

I gave this book 5 out of 5 bats. (I would have gave it more if I could handle that many bats.)

Review:
(Although I got to read this for free my review is still 100% honest)

Wow this story was pretty crazy. It also introduces you to a new character who is going to be in Scarlet as well. Its about Ze'ev who got enlisted into Queen Levana'a army. The plans that she has for this army is pretty crazy. I was rather surprised by this, but it also makes since for what the benefits of mixing a wolf and human would mean. This story diffidently make you want to run off and go read Scarlet if you didn't already feel that way after finishing Cinder. I would have to say that this is a must read after Cinder to give you look into what is going to happen in Scarlet.

I gave this 5 out of 5 bats.

In the violent country of Ludania, the classes are strictly divided by the language they speak. The smallest transgression, like looking a member of a higher class in the eye while they are speaking their native tongue, results in immediate execution. Seventeen-year-old Charlaina has always been able to understand the languages of all classes, and she's spent her life trying to hide her secret. The only place she can really be free is the drug-fueled underground clubs where people go to shake off the oppressive rules of the world they live in. It's there that she meets a beautiful and mysterious boy named Max who speaks a language she's never heard before . . . and her secret is almost exposed.

Charlie is intensely attracted to Max, even though she can't be sure where his real loyalties lie. As the emergency drills give way to real crisis and the violence escalates, it becomes clear that Charlie is the key to something much bigger: her country's only chance for freedom from the terrible power of a deadly regime.

Review:
(Although I got to read this for free my review is still 100% honest)

When I read the synopsis of this book I thought it sounded good. I was not expecting it to be as great as it was though. At the beginning of this book your pulled into a world set in the future where this country is ruled by one queen. I also thought the beginning of this book was really messed up with what the queen does. Different classes talk in different languages and its against the law to look at anyone talking a higher language than your own.

The Setting for this book takes place in Ludania, where the queen rules everything. There is a wall circling around the city to keep out enemies but it also keeps in the people who lives within its walls. You have to have your I.D. Badge on you where ever you go so you can prove your not an outsider.

The main character is Charlania or Charlie for short. She is just trying to get by with school and working at her family restaurant except she can understand all languages. This is a very dangerous trait to have in this world. She has to hide her power from everyone including her best friends. I thought that her character was one that a lot of girls can  relate to. She is often overlooked by boys and men for her best friend Brooke.

Brooke is a very carefree flirt. She flirts with almost anyone but mostly military men. She loves attention and doesn't care what gets in her way for it. She will often leave Charlie behind to go after someone she sees. She doesn't seem like a very good friend in that way but it turns out that she is. I have mixed feelings with Brooke she says she cares about Charlie but yet at the same time she lies to her. Brooke has different personalizes through out this book.

When I first found out about Max in this book I was hooked. I was automatically was wanting Charlie to be with him!  Charlie's feelings for him are all over the place at first she was fearful of him. Then she liked him and then she was angry with him and then she liked him again. It was interesting to see how she reacted towards the certain things Max would do.

The plot thickens in this book with a resistance who want to overthrow the queen. They believe that everyone should speak one language and there should be no class system. So of course there is action in this book which helps me keep reading to find out what happens next.

I don't want to give to much away of this book. I enjoyed reading it because I didn't know what would happen next and I wanted to find out. I would say that this book was a really good read. Its diffidently worth picking up sometime.

I gave this book 4.5 out of 5 bats . (No bats were harmed in the rating of this book)

Review:
(Although I got to read this for free my review is still 100% honest)

This novella is a must read if you have read Cinder. It shows more of what happened when Cinder first arrived at her new home with Adri. I loved reading what actually happened since this scene is mentioned in the book. I thought that it was messed up how Adri treated Cinder since she first arrived but that is how she is all the time. This novella was diffidently a good insight on how Cinder feels a lot of the time. I really enjoyed reading this I thought it was fun seeing Cinder, Peony, and Prince Kai as little kids.

I gave this 4 out of 5 bats.

Review

Well let me first start out by saying I loved this book. A Faity-Tale retelling of Cinderella, in a futuristic world with a plague going around. Yes sounds like the perfect book to me.

The Story take place in Behjing called the eastern common wealth. It is a place were all the countries of the world decided to make peace. This world is pretty amazing, it set in the future so they cyborg and androids within it.

Then there is also the fact that there is people living on the moon. They are not regular people though their like a new race called lunars. They have an evil queen who has been threatening war on earth unless certain demands are met. Her character in this book made me think a lot of the any evil queen from any story book. She wants things her way and thats it, she doesn't care who she has to murder to get things done her way.

The Lunars escape to Earth to run away from their queen. History shows that whenever people are introduced to each for the first time sickness spreads. That is exactly what happens in this case they bring a terrible plague with them that really has no cure. It also has no patterns on who it hits.

The main character Cinder I really enjoyed reading. I loved how shes a tom-boy but not to tuff. She is a mechanic and she also part cyborg. Being cyborg is not a good thing in this world though you are often looked down upon and are thought of as lesser. Besides all that I think that shes had to go through a lot of different things in life and deserves respect.

The Fairy-Tale retelling aspect of this book was really well done. I loved the unique twists that were added to the storyline. It made it so you weren't reading the same story again.

So since this book is a retelling of Cinderella of there is a prince. His name is Prince Kai, and I have to say he is prince charming. He is rather young but he is smart and reasonable with the choices he makes within this book.

Prince Kai and Cinder don't have a huge lovey dovey relationship within this book. Which works just fine. They don't jump into things to fast which can often bring a lot of books down. They were really still just in the liking phase when this book ends. I really want to read more about the two of them.

My other favorite character besides Cinder was Iko she is Cinder's android with a personality that is kind of out there. I really think she helped the book be more funny and also entertaining. Shes a great character and I loved reading about her.

This book is now one of my favorites. It world is different than anything I've read. The characters within it had good description and good character building. I loved this book and I think its a book that every one should read at least once.

I gave this book 5 out 5 bats.
