(Ava Delany #1)
by Claire Farrell
Edition: Ebook (154 Pages)
Published: November 28th 2010
Source: Amazon
GoodReads Page

Ava Delaney calls herself a hybrid - a living, breathing human who happens to have vampire poison running through her veins. The only thing greater than her thirst for human blood is her capacity for guilt. She does her best to avoid the human world, for everyone's sake.

When Ava accidentally enslaves a human while saving him from a vampire, she realises she has to look for help setting him free. Despite her misgivings, she expands her world but finds herself dragged into a possible vampire civil war. With the help of some new friends with ambiguous loyalties, she tries to find a way to keep her human, and herself, alive.

Review:
(Although I got to read this book for free my review is still 100% honest.)

I'm actually surprised I enjoyed this book as much I did. The storyline of this book is actually what intrigued me to read it. I'm glad that I finally did, because I would say it was worth it. Its a really quick and fun read.

The main character is Ava shes a human but has vampire poison running through her veins. Now she didn't choose to be this way she born like this. She avoids humans and vampires all together as much as she can. I found her character to be amusing with how she doesn't understand a lot about herself let alone other vampires. She only knows what she has read from books, which I guess is what we all really only know. I really like the fact that within this book she really was having problems with feeding and how it is morally wrong.

Well Ava accidentally thralls a guy to obey her every command. Carl I think was almost robot like within most of this book. He of course was just obeying everything Ava told him. I feel like his character is mostly just there. Yea he helps Ava when things go wrong but other than that I find him rather boring. Even when he eventually gets released from her hes still rather boring.

Then Ava goes to Peter for help, which I found their meeting to be very amusing. Peter hates vampires hes been hunting them for the last eight years. So I'm sure you could imagine what happens when Ava comes knocking at his door for help. Peters character was pretty important to the whole storyline. I think he really helped the conversations within this book to be more interesting. I enjoyed his character more than I would say for Carl.

Within this world of feuding vampire clans, theirs Ava just trying to get by. Of course she doesn't go unnoticed by these clans. So that is really were the plot really thickens. I think that this world was pretty well written it wasn't super descriptive or anything but you got the jest of it. I would say that if you wanted to give this book a try, don't take it to seriously and go into it with an open mind. I thought this was a fun quick read that would be for someone in a reading slump.

I gave this book 3 out of 5 bats.

Feburary Random Read (2): Thirst by Claire Farrell

Random Reads is a meme where we pick a random book from our shelf to read within the month. Feel free to do more than one per month, but since a lot of people have a lot of books to read each month, only one is “required” for the meme. I’m on Goodreads so I’m using a combination of the sorting feature and Random.org to pick the book I’m going to read.

This will be my second time with this meme. I really enjoyed doing my first one and hopefully I can do this monthly. Last month's book was Branded by Keary Taylor and I actually really enjoyed it. You can check out my Review for it Here. Anyways on to this month.I am going to be using my Kindle reads again which I have 72 of now.

I actually have been wanting to read this one since before last month. I just realized I never added to my GoodReads till then. I'm actually happy this one got picked because it is a Vampire Read. I try to at least read one vampire read a month because I'm doing the Vampire Reading challenge hosted by Parajunkee.  This book seems like it will be an interesting read.

Review:
(Although I got to read this book for free my review is still 100% honest)

When I jumped into this book I believed it was going to be an angel/demon book. As I continued reading it was more of just an angel book. The concept behind the angels was interesting at most. There was good "exalted " angels and bad "condemned" angels. While condemned angels were suppose to be like demons they were still just angels but sinned. This made me bored of them as I figured this out while reading the book.

The Story takes place in Washington. In a tiny town off a  Lake a couple hours from Seattle. The setting of this story mostly took place at Jessica's place though. Every once in awhile shed run to the store or something and that is all you really get to read about the town, besides the woods.

The main character Jessica I found to be very intriguing. She is 20 years old and a hermit she watched after Sal, a neighbor, who she house sitted for. I thought her character developed well through the story.

There was kind of a love triangle through out this book. Jessica and Alex kind of happened rather fast developing feelings for each other. They were also to perfect being together, but at least over a span what I think was month they said "I love you" which is better then saying it five days after meeting. I have to say though I did enjoy reading about the two of them.

Then there was Jessica and Cole. When Cole first arrived in the story I knew something was creepy about him. I didn't enjoy him from the beginning with how possessive he acted toward Jessica. He diffidently made the story-line more amusing though. I was surprised how evil Cole could really be. If I had to choose I would say I'm on Team Alex for sure.

I mostly enjoyed this book because of Jessica's dreams she had about Angels. She would have to stand at trail for the recently deceased, having to go down into hell or up to heaven. These sections of the book where repetitive until things started to change within them eventually.

All in all I would say this book was predictable at certain points, but I liked that it took Jessica a little while to figure it out, it didn't come easy for her. Also certain parts were repetitive like I said before. I mostly kept reading to find out what would happen between Alex and Jessica. Also to find out what would happen next in the book. I wouldn't say this wasn't a bad read and I'm kind of interested to read the next book in the series.

I gave this book 3 out of 5 bats.

January Random Read (1): Branded by Keary Taylor

 photo randomreads_zpsda6d17a4.jpg

I wanted to start doing this random read meme hosted by I'm Loving Books. It is were you pick a random book from your Goodreads to-read list, using random.org, to read within the month.

A problem I have is not reading any of the kindle books that I have gotten over the years that were free or on sale at the time. So I decided to use this meme to help me read at least one of the kindle books I have been putting off. So I created a kindle read list and it consists of 36 books.

well here goes nothing:

I don't remember how I found out about this book I think I was randomly searching for books one day. Anyways I'm looking forward to reading this book this month.
